Common Asko washer problems

Won't drain

A sock or coin stuck in the drain pump, a clogged pump filter or a kinked drain hose. Sometimes the pump motor itself has failed.

Won't spin, or spins slowly

Often a drain problem, because a washer won't spin with water in the drum. Otherwise a worn drive belt, motor coupling, lid switch or door lock.

Leaking

On front-loaders, a torn door boot or a loose pump hose. On top-loaders, a failed tub seal or a worn inlet hose.

Shaking or banging during spin

Worn shock absorbers or suspension rods, or a load that's badly out of balance.

Check these before you call

If one of these fixes it, you don't need us.

  • Clean the pump filter. On most front-loaders it sits behind a small door at the bottom front.
  • Make sure both water taps behind the washer are fully open.
  • Check that the drain hose isn't kinked behind the machine or pushed too far into the standpipe.
  • If it only smells, run an empty hot cycle with washer cleaner before calling anyone.

Repair or replace?

A failed transmission on an older top-loader or a worn drum bearing on a front-loader can cost close to a new machine. We'll tell you the price before you spend anything.

Washer repair questions

Why does my front-loader smell?

Water and detergent stay in the door boot and the drain. Wipe the boot, leave the door open after washing and use the right amount of HE detergent. If the smell stays, the pump filter or drain may need cleaning.

Can you fix a washer that's still under warranty?

Call the manufacturer first, because their repair is free. We can help once the warranty is over.
